Life in University

The University of Glasgow is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world. It dates from 1451 when King James II of Scotland persuaded Pope Nicholas V to grant a lead seal, or bull, authorising Bishop William Turnbull of Glasgow to set up a university.

When I arrivied in Glasgow in 1995, is a big culture change for me. One the hardest thing I encountered is food as I don't eat bread while I was in Singapore. After three months, I lost about 7kg. My mum was shocked when she saw some photos that I mailed her.

During the lecture, the lecturer don't give print out or other note. The lecturer just talked on the topic of the day and wrote note on the black board and is up to the students to note down themselve. That is a surprise! Most of the time, we got to listened and wrote note. In our free time, we need to read up a lot on the subject.

The lecturers are helpful. I remember when I didn't understand a tropic and I approached the lecturer and he explained the tropic in details till I'm able to understand.

When term break, we used to hire a car and drove through the northern part of Scotland. The Loch in Scotland is extremely beautiful, like the Loch Ness.

The Island of Skye, situated off the West coast of Mainland Scotland, is the largest and best known of the Inner Hebrides.
Sometimes referred to in Gaelic poetry and song as Eilean a' Cheò (The Misty Isle), Skye is renown for its natural beauty, history and wildlife.
The Cuillin Hills, the Red Hills and Blaven have long been favourites with climbers and walkers. If you don't fancy the high places, the deeply indented coastline means you are never far from the sea.
Wildlife abounds on the Island, with birds from the tiny Goldcrest to magnificent Golden Eagle, mammals from Pygmy Shrew to Red Deer and fish from Saithe to Salmon. If you are lucky you might catch sight of the elusive Otter playing on the shore. The wide range of geology and topography provides habitats for many wild flowers.

Finally, I have graduated in 1997... In fact, I went back to Glasgow twice ever since I graduated and is really a great feeling!!!
